Writing & Poetry Competitions & Submissions – July 2024

A new month is upon us bringing over 160 fresh poetry competitions, writing submissions and opportunities open or with deadlines in July 2024.

With Midsummer in our rearview, we’re at height of the summer holiday season and there’s a new nautical writing prompt for July over on the blog exploring beach culture and our love of the seaside. Feel free to dip your writing toe in the warm shallows!

I had expected to spend July hosting La Dolce Vita, the new Italian-themed 30-day summer writing challenge but due to recent tech upgrades (to meet the new Google & Yahoo email protocols), I’m holding fire while the algorithms update and running the challenge in August instead. So there’s still plenty of time to book your ticket and jet off with us on an Italian writing odyssey!

This also means I have some unexpected free time in July and to mark the middle of the year (and keep me out of mischief), I’m running a flash sale on my one-to-one mentoring sessions – 30% off on all bookings until Mon 8 July. Mentoring is an opportunity to have an experienced poet read a group of your poems, give a fresh perspective on your writing, and valuable advice to refine and polish your work for submitting to literary journals, publishers and competitions.

The one-hour online mentoring session can be used to discuss your poems in more detail, areas for developing your work, any problems you may be experiencing in your writing, and to answer your questions about revising and submitting your work for publication.

More information and booking details at the link below - no discount code required, the reduction is made automatically at checkout.

Whatever you’re up to with your writing this month — drafting, honing, editing or submitting — I wish you every luck and success. Please consider sharing a link to this post on your own blog or social media pages. Thank you!
